November 2018 - My secret is out, I am a Dead Head. Our family is traveling to Riviera Maya, Mexico for an all-inclusive concert vacation with Dead and Company. There is a long standing tradition within the Grateful Dead community of bringing small gifts to hand out. I made buttons, magnets, stickers, and a few dozen hand painted fans to gift. I wanted a unique bag to carry all my schwag in so I sat down with my Quilt Pro software and designed this iconic, 13 pointed lighting bolt as a foundation paper pieced pattern. Mexico here we come!

Pattern by Cheryl Brickey

October 2018 -  This gorgeous sampler pattern was designed exclusively for The Quilter's Planner. It is a block of the month pattern and was a lot of fun to sew. As a modern quilter I rarely piece more traditional type blocks and enjoyed the challenge of perfecting all those points. I plan to add an additional inner black border followed by an outer white border. Hope to get it finished early next year.

Pattern by Violet Craft

October 2018 -  If you haven't guessed by now, I am a big fan of Violet Craft patterns.  I was honored with the task of testing this new pattern in her Elevated Abstractions series.  This foundation paper pattern represents the Three Sisters Peaks in the Cascade Range in Oregon. It finishes 48" by 18". I had a great time custom quilting it on my home machine.

Panel by Hoffman Fabrics

September 2018 -  I picked up this printed panel last year around Halloween but never got around to quilting it.  Planned ahead this year and got it done in time to hang for Halloween. I used a high loft polyester batting to really make the quilting stand out. I kept it simple and quilted just the outlines of everything. I found another panel from the same line to quilt for next year!

July 2018 -  I was recently asked to teach a beginner quilt making class at a local machine shop. I racked my brain and decided that the disappearing nine patch was the perfect pattern, it looks far more complicated than it really is, making the end result very satisfying for a first time quilter. I used Quilt Pro Systems software to mock-up the design,  rummaged through my stash of Kona cottons, and put together this gorgeous little sample quilt to hang on the shop wall.

July 2018 -  Our oldest son turned 5 back in May, loose teeth was no where on my parental radar. Being the crafty person I am, I couldn't let him put his very first tooth in a baggie, no no, it had to be something better. I got up early the morning of July 3rd to whip up this adorable little tooth fairy pillow for him. I didn't have any cotton stuffing nor did I want to buy a bag, so I just used some cotton balls from the bath room. That wiggly tooth finally came out July 6th and the tooth fairy left him a whopping $10!!

May 2018 -  I cannot think of a more perfect baby shower gift than a handmade quilt! I had been dying to make one of Kristi's quilts and jumped at the opportunity to make one for a sweet baby boy. This pattern goes together really easily so long as you keep your cuts labeled properly, I suggest those little stickers you use for garage sales. I stuck with the cool palette suggested in the pattern and would eventually like to make a larger rainbow version for myself! Kristi's southwest inspired quilts are simply stunning and speak to my solid loving heart. You can find her patterns and books here.

Pattern by Me

June 2018 -  This fun quilt was inspired by the Summer of '62 fabric line for Birch Organic Fabrics.  My Pops is a southern California native, who loves old woodies and surfing. They couldn't have come out with a more perfect collection of fabrics for him. I designed this quilt in basic rectangular blocks of various sizes to really showcase the fabrics. I used the same swirling wave quilting motif I used on the Prismatic Snowflake quilt and am quite pleased with the way it looks in combination with the Hobbs Wool batting.  I gifted this to him as an early Father's Day present and he was thrilled.

May 2018 - My husband and I finally took an adults only vacation to Mexico to see Dead and Company play on the beach, I knew I needed something to keep my hands busy during the flights. I had never done an English paper pieced project before but figured why not? I picked some of my favorite, rich, autumnal colors and couldn't be any happier with how it turned out. There is even a hidden zipper on the back so that it can be washed. I entered and it has been accepted into the OC Fair competition.

May 2018 - One of my goals this year was to push myself to learn new skills. Free-motion quilting including ruler work is on the list of skills I wanted to improve. This quilt pattern is the practice quilt for an Angela Walters Craftsy class called Dot to Dot Quilting (more info here). The original pattern called for the center hexagon to be fused but I whipped up a foundation paper block to use instead. This has been basted and will be quilted soon!

May 2018- I bought this pattern at QuiltCon 2016 in Pasadena, CA. I didn't know how to foundation paper piece at the timel but was so drawn to the geometric pattern I couldn't resist. After over two years of sitting in my drawer, a couple FPP classes, and the addition of a Moda Ombre Confetti bundle, I finally knew what to do with him! I had to fiddle with the fabric placements called for in the original pattern but am quite happy with the results! Head over to my blog to check out more details.

April 2018 - My 5-year old is obsessed with TMNT so, for his birthday, I made him a mini quilted wall hanging of his favorite turtle, Donatello. This pattern was more difficult than I anticipated due to the tiny tiny nature of the pieces. I highly recommend using the Add-an-Eighth ruler if you choose to make one. The pattern was free on Craftsy and can be found here.

April 2018 - When Sari asked for pattern testers I just couldn't say no! This foundation paper pieced mini quilt was so much fun to plan and sew. I used a selection of colors from the Moda Ombre Confetti Metallic line and Kona White for the background. If you were lucky enough to attend Quilt Market, you may have seen this in the Daylight Company booth. This mini currently lives with Sari and will eventually returned full of her quilty goodness. April 2018 - My wonderful sister-in-law and I both share a love for books. One of our favorite series is Red Rising by Pierce Brown. I designed this foundation paper pieced pattern using Quilt-Pro as a birthday gift for her. I haven't yet made one for myself but plan to make a gold on black version if I can find the perfect gold shimmer fabric. This pattern is not yet for sale but please contact me if you would like to test it.

March 2018 -  This gorgeous quilt started my love affair with foundation paper piecing. I took this as a class at Road to California. I had seen a version similar on Pinterest and wanted to replicate it in a cooler hues. The original pattern (found here) calls for 8 fabrics in a range of values. I choose to use only four fabrics and alter the pattern slightly (with lots of help from the teacher) to achieve this snowflake design. For the quilting motif, I went with swirling winds to further enhance the illusion of a blowing snowflake. This quilt was gifted to my mother-in-law this past Mother's Day.

January 2018 -  This lovely rainbow mini was a thank you gift for a stranger that sent me out of print fabrics to finish my sons space quilt. I had the opportunity to give this to her in person at Road to California. The Northern Lights pattern has always been a favorite of mine! A lap sized version made with batiks was one of my very first quilting projects. I loved this mini so much I made a second one for myself and it now hangs in my studio. Full size, mini, and the rulers can all be found in various online quilt shops or amazon.
